Located in the South Bay of Los Angeles, the studio is filled with a carefully curated selection of props, wraps, headbands, bonnets and more, everything needed for a fully styled newborn session. A selection of vintage and vintage-inspired wardrobe pieces is available for moms and toddler siblings, providing a foundation for styling while allowing you to incorporate your own clothing to create a look that feels personal and timeless.

Garden Newborn

The garden provides a serene, unique setting for outdoor newborn sessions, just steps from the studio and restroom for feedings, diaper changes, and comfort. Carefully designed for photography, it offers a variety of thoughtfully arranged corners and vignettes for portraits. Every plant is grown organically, free from pesticides and herbicides, ensuring a safe and gentle environment for your little one. The family area is planted exclusively with edible flowers and greenery, adding a layer of ease and quiet magic for curious toddlers exploring their surroundings.

Family Newborn

Family newborn sessions are relaxed and lifestyle-focused, centered on natural connection, cuddles, and real moments together. Rather than stiff, uncomfortable posing, I gently guide you into simple, natural interactions so your images feel authentic, emotive, and true to your family.

A phone consultation is required before booking. Not every inquiry becomes a booking, and that is by design. I reserve my calendar for families I genuinely connect with and whose vision aligns with my work. The consultation is where that conversation happens. Some requests are subject to additional fees beyond the base session pricing. Details are outlined in the upgrades section below.

Please note, I do not take any last-minute newborn bookings during peak wedding seasons. I highly recommend booking your newborn session before your baby is born or booking early for a 3-6 month session instead.

What to Expect

Every session at Amethyst and Moss Studio is designed to feel unhurried, personal, and thoughtfully prepared. Here is what the experience looks like from start to finish.

• Before Your Session: Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive a detailed session planning guide covering everything from what to wear to how to prepare your baby for the best possible session experience. Alicia Marie will work with you personally to plan your styling, color palette, and any special elements you would like incorporated.

• The Day of Your Session: Sessions are scheduled Tuesday through Friday mornings, timed to align with the window when most newborns are naturally most settled and sleepy. The pace is always guided by your baby. Feedings, soothing, and breaks are built into the session naturally, so there is no pressure to rush.

• The Studio: The studio is stocked with a carefully curated selection of props, wraps, headbands, bonnets, and wardrobe pieces for baby, parents, and toddler siblings. Standard backdrop options include a white brick wall and weathered barnwood wall, with additional hand-painted canvas backdrops available for Deluxe sessions.

• The Garden: The garden is a custom-designed private outdoor space available exclusively to Amethyst and Moss Studio clients. Every plant is grown organically, free from pesticides and herbicides, with edible flowers and greenery in the family area for the safety of curious toddlers. The garden offers a variety of thoughtfully arranged settings including a vineyard, rose garden, double macrame swing, and greenhouse built from vintage windows and doors.

• After Your Session: Your finished gallery is typically delivered within 2 to 3 weeks and includes detailed hand retouching on every image. Your online gallery includes a print release and the option to order archival quality prints directly through your gallery.

The most complete newborn experience I offer. This session moves through both the studio and garden over an extended session, with access to the full range of backdrops, props, and styling options.

Upgrades

• Additional Images: Each session package includes a carefully curated set of edited images. Additional images are available as an upgrade and are priced per image. Alicia Marie will select the strongest images with the most variety, or you are welcome to provide input on selections immediately following your session.

• Sessions Past the Two-Week Mark: Newborn sessions are ideally scheduled within the first 5 to 14 days after birth. Sessions requested after that window typically require additional time and care, and an additional fee will apply.

• Weekend Appointments: Newborn sessions are available Tuesday through Friday mornings. Weekend appointments are offered exclusively as an upgrade for Deluxe package clients, subject to availability. If a weekend session is important to you, booking before your due date is strongly recommended.

• Studio Bed: The studio bed creates a beautiful, editorial setting for family portraits. An upgrade fee applies to cover professional laundering and sanitation between sessions. This fee is waived for Deluxe collection clients.

• Composite Poses and Props: Certain poses and props require merging multiple images into a single finished photograph for baby’s safety. These can be incorporated into any session upon request. An upgrade fee applies and is waived for Deluxe collection clients.

• Behind the Scenes Video: A complimentary behind the scenes video is included for clients who confirm their booking within 24 hours of inquiry.

• Prints and Albums: Archival quality prints and albums are available as an upgrade. Details and pricing are provided upon request.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to photograph a newborn?

The ideal window is within the first 5 to 14 days after birth, when babies are naturally sleepier and more settled. I recommend reaching out before your due date to reserve your date in advance.

Is newborn photography safe?

Your baby’s safety is the foundation of everything I do. I completed extensive newborn safety and posing training when I launched my business in 2011 and have kept that knowledge current ever since. The studio and garden are both designed with baby’s comfort and safety in mind, and I stay current on vaccinations to protect your newborn during our time together.

Can we choose a specific style or theme?

Yes. Session styling, color palettes, and overall design are planned with you in advance as part of the booking process. If you have specific props or meaningful items you would like incorporated, you are welcome to bring them.

How long does a newborn session take?

Session length varies by package. Essentials sessions run approximately 2 hours, Family sessions approximately 3 hours, and the Deluxe session runs 4 to 6 hours with the option to split across two days. Each option will include time for feeding, changing, etc.

Can parents and siblings be included?

The Family and Deluxe sessions are designed to include parents and siblings alongside baby, blending posed portraits with genuine connection.

When will we receive our photos?

Final images are typically delivered within 2 to 3 weeks of your session date.

Where does the session take place?

All sessions take place at my private studio and garden in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. The garden is a custom-designed outdoor space available exclusively to my clients and not accessible through any other photographer or venue.

Do you provide props and outfits?

Yes. Every session includes access to my curated collection of wraps, props, and accessories for baby, as well as a selection of wardrobe pieces for parents and toddler siblings. Detailed wardrobe guidance is part of the session planning process, and personal items are always welcome.

What if my baby has already arrived, can I still book?

Reach out and I will let you know if I have any dates available. Please note that I do not book newborn sessions once a baby is approaching two months old. At that stage I recommend waiting and scheduling a 3 or 6 month milestone session instead.
