About me
Welcome! I’m Alicia Marie, the photographer and videographer behind Amethyst and Moss Studio. I create documentary-style wedding imagery and artfully styled newborn portraits, blending honest moments with creative, cinematic storytelling.
I’m drawn to subtle gestures, fleeting glances, and the emotions that can easily go unnoticed. I work with natural light and carefully crafted lighting, then bring that same intention to the editing process. I especially enjoy working with people who aren’t naturally comfortable in front of a camera, offering gentle direction while leaving plenty of room for genuine moments to unfold.
My Los Angeles studio is a cozy cottage beside my home, surrounded by an organically grown garden and a greenhouse built from vintage windows and doors. It’s a space where light, texture, and greenery create an ever-changing backdrop for portraits.
Outside of photography, you’ll usually find me with my kids, our cats, or in the garden. And while Los Angeles is home, I have a particular love for New Orleans. Its historic architecture, hidden courtyards, moss-draped oaks, and music-filled streets have a cinematic quality that feels perfectly suited to the stories I love to tell.

About Amethyst & Moss
I’ve changed my business name a few times since I started my business in 2011, but Amethyst and Moss feels like the most personal.
The name grew from two things that have inspired me for years: an amethyst pendant I made from a gemstone with family history and roots in New Orleans and Brazil, and my earliest memory of falling in love with photography and videography.
As a kid at Disneyland, I was captivated by the Spanish moss draped across the trees in New Orleans Square. I remember taking my dad’s video camera and wandering through the park, filming a little landscaping tour and wondering whether the real New Orleans could possibly be as beautiful. Years later, I discovered that it is even more creatively inspiring than I imagined.
Amethyst and Moss is a small reminder of those early sparks of curiosity, creativity, and intuition that led me here.
Behind the Scenes
Curious how I manage both photos and video? I often joke that carrying two 9 pound babies definitely helped prepare me for wearing tons of gear so I can multitask efficiently on wedding days! Managing everything myself ensures that your day is documented in consistent style, from start to finish. No need to worry about a separate videographer crossing into my frame and ruining the shot at the moment your father starts to tear up (it’s happened in the past!). Your photos and video are shot from the same creative perspective so they flow together seamlessly.
