About me
Welcome! I’m Alicia Marie, the photographer and videographer behind Amethyst and Moss Studio. I capture creative, documentary-style weddings, and artfully styled newborn sessions in my Los Angeles studio/garden.
I work with natural light and carefully crafted lighting, shaping it creatively to frame emotion. I am equally passionate about editing, bringing each image to life with care and intention. Editing is not a chore for me; it is where the magic of a moment is fully realized. As a friend’s son once said while at my old office for an apparel photoshoot, “You get to color on your computer all day? You have the coolest job in the world!” That simple observation has stayed with me, reminding me of the joy and wonder in bringing visions to life.
As an introverted empath, I am drawn to subtle gestures, fleeting glances, and the emotions that often go unnoticed. I especially love working with fellow introverts, gently guiding them so the portrait experience feels relaxed, natural, and wholly their own. My goal is to help my clients feel comfortable in front of the camera, even if that doesn’t come naturally for you.
When I’m not behind the camera, I love spending time with my kids, our cats, and tending to my garden, a space that is often visited by all the cats in the neighborhood as well as other local wildlife. Whether I am documenting weddings and newborns or supporting clients in my other business as they work toward their financial goals for retirement, I feel honored to walk alongside people as they move through life’s biggest milestones with confidence.
My Los Angeles studio is a cozy cottage located next to my home, beside a custom-designed garden where light, texture, and greenery create endless possibilities for newborn, engagement, and bridal portraits. My greenhouse, built from vintage windows and doors, is my favorite corner of the garden and a popular backdrop for photos (as well as for the occasional girls’ night in!).
Though I am based in Los Angeles, I travel to New Orleans whenever I can. Its historic architecture, hidden courtyards, and moss-draped oaks feel cinematic and timeless. The live music throughout the city energizes me and transports me to the stories I used to hear from my grandparents. The city is mysterious, romantic, and a little wild; the perfect mirror for the images I love to create.
